The Smashing Pumpkins are an American alternative rock band from Chicago, IL that currently consists of frontman Billy Corgan, bassist/vocalist Nicole Fiortentino, drummer Mike Byrne and guitarist Jeff Schroeder. They gained mainstream prominence in 1993 with the release of their second album, Siamese Dream. Despite internal issues associated with infighting and drug use, The Smashing Pumpkins quickly emerged as one of the most successful alternative bands of the 1990s. Critics often mentioned the band in the same breath as music icons Pearl Jam, Nirvana and Jane's Addiction. The group broke up in 2000 before reforming in 2006 with the release of the album Zeigeist.
In 2012, The Smashing Pumpkins released their ninth album Oceania. They will be embarking on a brief six-city Canadian tour in October 2012.
