Gaining attention in the mid 90's, when rock needed to transition from the popular but dying grunge genre, Korn has since become one of the most influential rock bands of the 90's. Korn are credited with inventing the nu-metal genre, a style of rock music which features down-tuned guitars and a sound which combines death metal, hip hop, goth and electronic.

Since their formation, Korn have released eight albums, numerous awards and inspired a variety of other Nu Metal and rap-rock artists, including Limp Bizkit, Deftones and Slipknot. Korn released an untitled album in 2007 and are currently touring the world.

Korn also pioneered the use of seven-string guitars among heavy metal musicians. They are also notable for their collaborations with hip hop artists such as Ice Cube, Nas and Xzibit. Most likely the best fitting genre for Korn would be alternative metal. They have cited bands such as Mr. Bungle, Faith No More, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ministry, Metallica, Helmet and Primus as key influences, as well as rap group N.W.A.

In 1998, Korn started their own annual heavy metal tour called the Family Values Tour which featured bands such as Incubus, Orgy, Limp Bizkit, Ice Cube, Rammstein, Primus, Staind, The Crystal Method and Filter. The final Family Values tour was held in 2001.

In January 2006, Korn announced the See You on the Other Side World Tour. The tour, with 10 Years and Mudvayne, began in February 2006 and is expected to run into early 2007. The Australia part of the tour will consist of Korn, 10 Years, Hatebreed and Disturbed. Korn are slated to preform at various European rock festivals over the summer of 2006, many of which feature such legendary bands as Guns N' Roses and Metallica.
