Coachella Music Festival began as a two day event, which expanded to three days in 2007. Its attendance has steadily increased from about 10-20,000 people at the first Coachella in 1999, to a sold-out 100,000 in recent years. The Coachella Music Festival is noted for its desert setting (the Mojave Desert is approximately 50 miles north of Indio). Consequently, daytime temperatures frequently rise to over 100F (38C) with little cloud cover or shade. The temperature drops drastically after sunset.
Performers who have featured at the Coachella Music Festival in the past include Queens of the Stone Age, Ben Folds, Coldplay and Bright Eyes.
