Canucks and Sharks go into Game 5

The Vancouver Canucks are hoping history doesn’t repeat as they go into Game 5 against the San Jose Sharks. Wins in Game 5 haven’t been their strength, and they’re going to need to play as though this is Game 7 if they want to end the Western Conference Final here.
Henrik Sedin insisted that tonight’s game will not be a relaxed one for the Canucks. They won’t be playing as if they still have three more chances to win this.”You have to treat [tonight] as the last game, and that’s what we need to do. For me, that’s killer instinct.”
Many are wondering if the Sharks have any bite left in them. The Sharks will already be low in enthusiasm as their captain Joe Thornton got a messed up shoulder in Game 4. Thornton insists he is feeling 100% and is ready to go for tonight’s game.
On the Canucks bench it looks as though injured defencemen Aaron Rome and Christian Ehrhoff will be staying out of the game.
Today also happens to be the 14th anniversary of the game that put the Canucks in the Stanley Cup Final the last time around. Coincidence?
Tickets are still available for Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals, which happens tonight here in Vancouver at Rogers Arena. Puck drops at 6 pm PDT.

Saturday, the Vancouver Canucks return from a five game road trip to take on the defending Stanley Cup Champions, the Chicago Blackhawks. The Blackhawks kicked off their Western Road trip with a 5-0 win over the Edmonton Oilers and will be facing off against the Calgary Flames this evening.

The Blackhawks’ team that the Canucks will face on Saturday has experienced significant reshuffling since last year. Almost half their team were not on the roster for last year’s win. Canucks Begin Historic Year

40yearsCanucksThis past Saturday night was more than your typical NHL season opener for the Vancouver Canucks. Not only did they announce their new captain, Henrik Sedin, but more monumentally, they kicked off the 40th anniversary of the Canucks franchise.

In 1970, the Canucks along with the Buffalo Sabres were the 13th and 14th team to enter the NHL. In that time, the Canucks have produced their share of heroes and diehard fans, many of whom were out for Saturday night’s game.

Both Saturday and Monday’s games were fairly tight games, with the Canucks showing some early season lackluster efforts. Read More

It’s Hockey Season!

NHLlogoThe NHL preseason has begun.

There are a couple of things to be remember in the weeks leading up to the first regular season game on October 7th.

The first is that preseason games do not influence who makes the playoff or directly affect a team’s Stanley Cup run.

The second, these games are a great opportunity to showcase new talent, watch players up from the minors or recently added to the roster, and see the coaches and GMs test out lines, positions, special teams, and game strategy.

A perfect example of the experiments that come in preseason games was seen by the split team strategy in the Vancouver Canucks vs. Calgary Flames on September 21st.

Most teams have only played one or two games, but already the predictions are starting to fly. Read More
