The Vancouver Canucks, Ottawa Senators and National Hockey League are crossing their fingers for clear skies in Vancouver next March as BC Place hosts the Heritage Classic. The NHL is hosting six outdoor games this season, with Vancouver’s date coming on March 2nd, 2014.

The words “outdoor game” and “Vancouver” may be an odd couple in a city known for its rainy winters, but with BC Place’s retractable roof fans are assured that the game will go ahead regardless of weather. Open roof or not, the Heritage Classic is sure to be an impressive spectacle given the over 59,000 seats at BC Place slated to be filled. This marks the first time that either team has been involved in an outdoor game.

Tickets to the Heritage Classic between the Canucks and Senators went on presale today, and can now be ordered through ShowTimeTickets.com. Don’t miss the first-ever outdoor NHL game in Vancouver this March – buy your Heritage Classic tickets today!

Schedule for Round 1 of 2013 NHL Playoffs Set

Late Sunday night, the National Hockey League released the game and broadcast schedule for the conference quarterfinal round of the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The puck drops on Tuesday, April 30th as matchups begin between Chicago/Minnesota, Anaheim/Detroit and St. Louis/Los Angeles.

As for the four Canadian teams in action, the Vancouver Canucks (3rd) kick things off at home on Wednesday as they host the San Jose Sharks (6th). Despite a trend of dominance in years past, the Sharks have had the edge in head-to-head play in this abbreviated season, winning all three regular season games (2 in regulation, one in a shootout). Both teams will have a lot to prove going into the playoffs.

2013 NHL Regular Season Schedule Released, Features In-Conference Games Only

It’s about 3 months late, but the start of the National Hockey League season is finally set for January 19th. With both the NHL owners and players wrapping up the ratification process on Saturday morning, the long-awaited 2013 schedule was released later that evening.

While fans are probably more than a little excited about the return of NHL hockey to our arenas and televisions, they are likely disappointed with the fact that the schedule features in-conference games only. This means fans looking for a renewal of the Canucks-Bruins rivalry or for Sid the Kid to come out West will either have to hope for a match-up in the Stanley Cup Finals, or wait til next year.
Does the in-conference only schedule affect whether you’ll be going back to NHL hockey this year? Or are you excited for hockey anyway?

Stanley Cup Final Game 1 Recap

59 minutes and 41 seconds were what it took to decide the outcome of Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Vancouver Canucks and the Boston Bruins at Rogers Arena.
The first two periods saw a total of 12 power plays. Both Roberto Luongo and Tim Thomas were human shields, stopping a combined total of 46 shots through the first forty minutes.
It took an empty net for someone to score, and that’s exactly what Ryan Kesler, Jannik Hansen, and Raffi Torres did with 20 seconds left in the game. Just as fans were thinking the game was going to go into overtime, Kesler managed to grab a pass from Kevin Bieksa. Getting the puck in the zone he passed to Hansen. Torres had just come on in a late line change, getting ahead of Boston’s Johnny Boychuk, accepting the pass from Hansen and sliding it in. Thomas didn’t even see Torres coming; he was on the other side of the net covering Hansen.
Next game happens Saturday, June 4th at Rogers Arena. Puck drops at 5pm PDT!
