Canucks 2017-2018 schedule announced – home opener Oct. 7

It’s never too early to think about hockey! After finishing out of playoff contention this past season, the Canucks generated some much-needed buzz with their 5th-overall pick of Swedish centre Elias Pettersson among others at the 2017 entry draft. Pettersson is touted as a much-needed offensive prospect for a team that struggled to put pucks in the net last season.

Prior to the draft, the NHL released its 2017-2018 regular season schedule. The Canucks will begin their season with a home game versus Connor McDavid’s Edmonton Oilers on Saturday, October 7th. The NHL’s newest expansion team, the Vegas Golden Knights, will make their regular season debut at Rogers Arena on November 16th. Read More

NHL releases 2013-2014 schedule, confirms participation in 2014 Olympics

The new season is set to begin October 1st, 2013 and features six outdoor stadium games on the schedule. The NHL also officially confirmed the participation of its players in the 2014 Sochi Olympics, which leads to a two-week break in the February schedule.

“Time to Move On” – Roberto Luongo good as gone from Vancouver

It’s been one of the biggest give-ins in the NHL since Cory Schneider started Game 4 in the Canucks’ first-round playoff series against the LA Kings, but Roberto Luongo’s departure looks as inevitable as ever. In an interview with Vancouver’s CFOX radio station this morning, the man himself spoke of his future in no uncertain terms by stating the following:

“At the end of the day, it’s time to move on and I’m okay with that. I had a great six years in Vancouver. I think it’s a wonderful city, I really enjoyed my time there. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to bring a Stanley Cup there, which was probably my biggest regret. But it will be remembered for six great years.” Source: TSN.ca

With his remarks this morning on CFOX radio, Roberto Luongo essentially waved goodbye to Vancouver.

Stanley Cup Final Game 1 Recap

59 minutes and 41 seconds were what it took to decide the outcome of Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Vancouver Canucks and the Boston Bruins at Rogers Arena.
The first two periods saw a total of 12 power plays. Both Roberto Luongo and Tim Thomas were human shields, stopping a combined total of 46 shots through the first forty minutes.
It took an empty net for someone to score, and that’s exactly what Ryan Kesler, Jannik Hansen, and Raffi Torres did with 20 seconds left in the game. Just as fans were thinking the game was going to go into overtime, Kesler managed to grab a pass from Kevin Bieksa. Getting the puck in the zone he passed to Hansen. Torres had just come on in a late line change, getting ahead of Boston’s Johnny Boychuk, accepting the pass from Hansen and sliding it in. Thomas didn’t even see Torres coming; he was on the other side of the net covering Hansen.
Next game happens Saturday, June 4th at Rogers Arena. Puck drops at 5pm PDT!

'94 Vancouver Canucks Reminisce

mcleanvancouvercanucksIt seems appropriate that as the Vancouver Canucks make their run for the Stanley Cup – they haven’t gotten this far since 1994 – that those same 1994 teammates are getting together for a trip down memory lane.
The team that made it to the 1994 Stanley Cup Final will be having a reunion tomorrow at the River Rock Casino in Richmond. From 2 pm to 5 pm the ’94 Canucks will be in the lobby area signing autographs and reminiscing about their own run for the cup. This is a free all ages event that includes prizes and photographs.
You’ll have the chance to meet Kirk McLean, Murray Craven, Dana Murzyn, Jeff Brown, Marty Gelinas and Gerald Diduck!
The current Vancouver Canucks play in Game 4 of the Western Conference Final against the San Jose Sharks today at 12 pm PDT in San Jose.
