Led by Andrew Van Wyngarden and Ben Goldwasser, MGMT are currently on tour in support of their sophomore effort, Congratulations, with dates in Canada, the U.S., and U.K. The tour kicked off in spring, and will wrap up in December of this year.
MGMT received much praise for their 2008 release, Oracular Spectacular. The electro-pop sound and dance appeal of songs like “Kids” and “Electric Feel” earned the then duo a strong fan-base, and a Grammy nomination for “Best New Artist.”
The highly anticipated follow-up album, Congratulations, was released in April of this year. It has a more melodic sound with tracks that flow seamlessly one to another. The title song gives a nod to the danceable hits from their first album, but songs like “Siberian Breaks” are more layered, and provide listeners with something new.
MGMT will be returning to North America on July 15th, playing the Open Air Theatre in San Diego. They have three dates set for Canada, and finish up in Europe with shows featuring The Dum Dum Girls.
