Alouettes Continue to Dominate CFL

calvillo3The defending 2009 Grey Cup Champions, the Montreal Alouettes have continued to dominate the league throughout the 2010 season. Having clinched the Eastern Division, they have their eyes set on back to back Grey Cup wins.
No one is more focused than Alouettes’ 38 year old quarterback Anthony Calvillo who has already led the team to 2 Grey Cup victories since signing in 1998.
Sunday’s Toronto Argonauts vs Montreal Alouettes game promises to be full of excitement after a thrilling end to the game last week. With the game tied at 30 and 9 seconds on the clock Montreal kicker, Damon Duval, missed a field kick. The play was then followed by back and forth kicking resulting in the Alouettes scoring (more info). The game secured Toronto’s fifth place finish and a visit to Icor Wynne Stadium to play the Tiger-Cats for the CFL Semi-finals.
Calvillo will not appear in Sunday’s game against the Toronto Argonauts. In his place will be Adrian McPherson, who has been with the Alouettes since 2008.
It is not out of character for Alouettes head coach Marc Trestman to sit the three time winner of the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player Award. He is known for saving his highest impact players after clinching the Eastern Division to keep them healthy for the final play-off run.
With his contract coming up, Calvillo scoffs down suggestions he may consider retirement at the end of this year. “I feel very good where I’m at -physically and mentally -and believe I’m at the top of my game,” he said. “I feel I can still help a team win a championship when I step on the field.”
With the Alouettes missing their top quarterback this could be the game the Toronto needs to gain confidence and momentum for the first playoff game against Hamilton on Sun, November 14th.
