The Lion King made its debut at Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver this week, and will continue with daily performances through August 8. The show will hit several U.S. cities in the fall.
Lion King the musical is based on the Disney movie of the same name. It debuted at the Orpheum Theatre in Minneapolis  in 1997, and was an instant sensation. The following year, Lion King was awarded six Tony awards, including Best Musical. This one-of-a-kind production has reached an audience of over forty million people.
The unique quality of the Lion King has kept the musical on Broadway for more than ten years. Read More

The thrilling production, Walking with Dinosaurs, is returning to North America this summer, and will include a four day run in Vancouver in August. Narrated by paleontologist character “Huxley,” the performance features fifteen life-size mechanical dinosaurs in two acts of live theater.
The show is based on the 1999 award-winning BBC television series of the same name. Well-known designers worked with scientists to accurately recreate the impressive creatures for the live show. The enormous cast includes a thirty-six foot tall Brachiosaurus and a forty-two foot long Tyrannosauras Rex. Along with the mechanical aspects that allow the dinosaurs to walk around, the roaring sounds and dramatic lighting bring the once thriving animals back to life. Read More

Yo Gabba Gabba! is going on the road this fall. The cast of the hit children’s show will be bringing it live to over sixty cities in North America. Nine stops are scheduled for Canada, including two dates in Vancouver at Queen Elizabeth Theatre.
Although the show was originally written to add excitement to television for children, DJ Lance Rock and his onstage friends have gathered an audience of adults and children alike. The retro sing and dance show often features popular bands and entertainers. Past shows have included Mya, Hot Hot Heat, The Shins, Rachel Dratch, MGMT, Jimmy Eat World, Weird Al Yankovic, Sugarland, Elijah Wood, and Jack Black. Read More

Margaret Cho Begins Summer Tour

The very funny Margaret Cho will tour North America this summer. The Cho Dependent Tour will take her throughout the U.S. and to six destinations in Canada. The tour kicks off at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Biloxi, MS on June 26th, and will close out on December 12 at The Tabernacle in Atlanta, Georgia.
The tour will feature new stand-up material as well as comedic songs from her upcoming album, co-written and recorded with an array of well-known indie musicians. The album, also called Cho Dependent, will be released in late August, and  features collaborations with musicians like Andrew Bird, Tegan & Sara, Fionna Apple, and Ani Difranco. Read More

Victoria to Host 2011 Canadian Figure Skating Championships

Victoria is set to host the Canadian Figure Skating Championships and the Junior Nationals in January, 2011. The events will be held at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. This marks the third time Victoria has been chosen as the site for this event.
Canada’s performance at the 2010 Winter Olympics has fans excited for the return of their top performers.
Still undetermined, but expected to compete is Olympic bronze medalist, Joannie Rochette, who won the hearts of spectators everywhere with her courageous and nearly flawless performance at the Winter Games. Read More
