Sufjan Stevens Tours North America in October

Indie-folk singer and songwriter, Sufjan Stevens is touring North America this fall in promotion of his newest album, The BQE. Released in 2009, this new effort from Stevens is inspired by the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.

The tour will get underway at the Metropolis Theatre in Montreal. Stevens has over twenty cities booked, including two other Canadian stops, Vancouver and Toronto. The tour will close out with two nights at the beautiful Beacon Theatre in New York. Read More

On Monday, NHL arbitrator Richard Block deemed the NHL was justified in rejecting Ilya Kovalchuck’s 17 year $102 million contract with the New Jersey Devils.

In the aftermath, there has been significant discussion about other, similar front-loaded and the NHL has stated that other controversial contracts will be up for review. Long term deals that continue paying high salaries long after a players peak performance years are becoming more and more popular in the NHL as a way to circumvent the league’s salary cap.

Specifically named in Block’s report have been: Vancouver Canucks Robert Luongo, Chicago Blackhawks Marian Hossa, Philadelphia Flyers Chris Pronger and Boston Bruin‘s Marc Savard.

After twenty years of making music, The Black Crowes are taking a precautionary breather as a band, but not before an extensive four month tour in support of their newest effort, Croweology. The new album, just released this month, is an all-acoustic, double album of rerecorded tracks from their comprehensive catalog.

The tour kicks off on August 13 in Milwaukee, and will take the group to over fifty cities, including one Canadian stop, Massey Hall in Toronto on October 27. It has been reported that NHL mediator, Richard Block, has sided with the NHL and against the NHLPA’s suite filed for Ilya Kovalchuk.

The controversial, 17-year, $102 million contract with the New Jersey Devils went to arbitration after the NHL rejected the front loaded nature of the contract. The league initially denied the contract, stating it circumvented the salary cap.
