Men's Olympic Ski Jumping

gregorSince 1924, men’s Ski Jumping has been an active part of the Winter Games. The sport was conceived by Norwegian lieutenant, Olaf Rye, who performed his first jump before a group of soldiers. Although the style of the sport has changed, some of the most successful participants continue to come from Norway. Overall, the strongest competitors for the event have come from central Europe, Scandinavia, and Japan.
This season’s favourite, Gregor Schlierenzauer, is the youngest of Team Austria. He is the reigning World Cup Champion, and in 2009, set the record for a single season with six consecutive wins.
Schlierenzauer is not alone in his quest toward success, his team consists of some significant contenders.
Among them is Martin Koch. In the 2006 Winter Games, he took home the gold medal. He is currently ranked eighth for the World Cup.
Veteran team member, Wolfgang Loitzl, has had his share of accomplishments. In 2009, Loitzl became an Austrian sensation after winning the Four Hills Tour. His World Cup ranking is currently third.
Anticipate the thrill of seeing skiers travel at speeds up to 95 kilometres per hour, lifting off in hopes of reaching gold. For Ski Jumping tickets, visit ShowTimeTickets.com.

Between the Pipes for Team Canada

Goalies3With the 2010 Winter Games only a week away, Canadians feel that this is our year. This is the year that our boys will bring home the gold. While hockey is very much a team event, there is without a doubt a unique pressure on the individuals who dare to stand between the pipes. With every mistake celebrated by the opposing team and plastered across multiple scoreboards in glaring yellow lights, it’s easy to see that no other player on the ice carries the same weight as the goaltender. This year, Team Canada has filled this ever important position with two of the NHL‘s most elite and celebrated goaltenders: Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils paired with Roberto Luongo of the Vancouver Canucks.
With an impressive nineteen years in the NHL under his belt, Martin Brodeur holds records for most shutouts, regular season wins, and games played, just to name a few. Not to mention his jam packed shelf of awards consisting of four Vezina Trophies, four Jennings Trophies, ten NHL All-Star Awards, and one Calder Trophy. Martin is also one of only a couple goalies to have scored goals in both the regular season and playoffs. Read More

Taylor Swift, Still on Top

On the heels of multiple Grammy wins, American country music artist, Taylor Swift has received some harsh criticism for her recent Grammy performance with rock legend, Stevie Nicks. After watching the performance myself, I must say it wasn’t her best. That being said, I still think the naysayers have it all wrong. I think she genuinely deserves her place in the spotlight.
There is a reason she has seen staggering success. Swift is a very talented songwriter, who appeals to people across the board.  She doesn’t cover heavy subject matter. Instead, she writes autobiographically inspired lyrics that are youthful and relatable. Beyond her megastar status, she seems like a regular person, and communicates that to her supporters.
It is that connection that has brought in a new listenership to country music. Swift is young, and has generated a young female audience for a genre that was otherwise lacking in that demographic. As a country music artist, she has reached a wide-ranging fan-base.
Taylor has moved beyond country charts to see pop success. She is not the first to straddle the line between country and pop, but is arguably the most successful. She has had two singles go to number one on the pop charts. Her 2008 release, Fearless, spent eleven weeks at the top of the Billboard 200, and has just been awarded the Grammy for “Album of the Year.”
Swift has also received much praise from her “first love”, the country music industry. In 2009, she swept the country music awards winning “Video of the Year,” “Album of the Year,” “Female Vocalist of the Year,” and “Entertainer of the Year.” She also became the youngest recipient of the American Music Award for “Artist of the Year.”
Find out for yourself just how talented Taylor Swift truly is. She will be touring North America from March through June with two stops scheduled for Ontario. For Taylor Swift tickets, visit Showtimetickets.com.

Megadeth Rust in Peace Anniversary Tour

Heavy metal fans were left disappointed by the recent cancellation of the much anticipated American Carnage joint tour by Megadeth and Slayer. This is the second cancellation from the co-headliners due to the medical problems of Slayer’s Tom Araya.
In the wake of the let down, American heavy metal thrashers, Megadeth, have announced a spring tour including supporting groups Testament and Exodus. The tour is a celebration of the 20th anniversary of Megadeth’s platinum-selling fourth studio release, Rust in Peace. At the time, this was the band’s most commercially successful effort.
Megadeth has released twelve albums total. Their most recent album, End Game, was releaed in 2009. The album sold 45,000 copies in its first week, and debuted at number nine on the Billboard 200 chart. The band has sold nearly twenty-five million albums worldwide, making them one of the most commerically successful heavy metal bands of all time.
Founding member, Dave Mustaine, takes the band on the road beginning March 1 in Spokane, Washington. Megadeth has also rescheduled the American Carnage tour with Slayer with dates planned for late summer.

Michael Buble Embarks on Ambitious Tour

British Columbia’s own, Michael Buble, is in high demand these days. Achieving multiple Junos and two Grammys, Buble has spent the last decade working his way up the charts. Next month, he embarks on an ambitious tour to promote his newest album, Crazy Love.

“My songs have always been about love… But this time it was a little more extreme, and I dug deeper, way deeper,” said Buble of the album.

Crazy Love is a departure from his jazzy norm. The big band sound is still evident, but this album adds a pop element that gives his swingy Sinatra style more of an edge.

The tour kicks off March 10th at Amway Theatre in Orlando, Florida, and will continue through summer with the final show at General Motors Place in Vancouver, BC on August 20th.

Barenaked Ladies Tour Canada

Ontario’s own, Barenaked Ladies, are touring across Canada to promote their newest album, All in Good Time, beginning April 6th in Victoria. The album is set to release in March of this year, and is the first album produced since the departure of band co-founder Steven Page in early 2009.

“This is a really important record for us and we’re really proud of it,” Band co-founder Ed Robertson said in a statement. “We’re redefining who we are, and how we communicate as a band, and as friends. The album has an emotional rawness to it that we may have shied away from in the past. We can’t wait to play these songs live.”

The Barenaked Ladies are known for their fun and quirky disposition, and energetic live shows. According to the remaining foursome, that hasn’t changed. In fact, the guys say that the new album has rekindled creative energy among them, and they are feeling as solid as ever.
