“We were ready to go, we were ready to compete, we were ready to press them,” Toronto FC coach Preki said of his team’s quick start at last night’s game.

Compete is exactly what Toronto FC did yesterday evening at BMO Field. The Reds came out strong, scoring their first goal just 3 minutes into the game off of a header in the penalty box by Martin Saric. It took until the second half for five time CONCACAF Champions, Cruz Azul, to realize what had hit them.

Not many people were expecting the Reds to be ahead 2-0 going into the second half. Plagued by injuries that meant regular starters, Maico Santos (knee), Chad Barrett (hamstring), and number one goalkeeper Stefan Frei, were not in the lineup, many feared for Toronto FC‘s first CONCACAF game. The Mexico City team, Cruz Azul, has appeared at the CONCACAF finals the last 2 years, and is currently placed third in the Mexican Primera Division, while the Toronto FC, in addition to playing in the Championship League, is currently in the eighth, and final MLS playoff spot.

In addition to coming out strong, the Toronto FC maintained control throughout most of the game. New comer to the Reds, Mista scored their second goal just before halftime. The second half was filled with scoring opportunities for the Reds, only to see Cruz Azul put one behind goalkeeper Jon Conway at the 90 minute mark.

The Toronto FC have an exciting and challenging schedule ahead. Playing games towards both a MLS and CONCACAF title, they cannot afford to take any of their opponents lightly.

With only five guaranteed home games left, you cannot afford to miss out on this exciting action. The Toronto FC plays the New York Red Bulls at BMO Field this Saturday.
