UFC Returns to Canada

ufc1It’s a great time to be a mixed martial arts fan in Canada, as the Ultimate Fighting Championship returns next month with a show in Montreal, and then to Vancouver with a show in June.
Bell Centre is set to host UFC 113, the match-up between Lyoto ‘The Dragon’ Machida and Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua. After their controversial five round fight in October, this highly anticipated rematch will remove any doubt as to who is the best light heavyweight in the world.
Next is Vancouver, where this event has been a long time coming. The once contentious sport has moved on from its Vale Tudo (anything goes) past to become a large-scale, carefully regulated combat sport. Local officials, namely Mayor Robertson, recognized the legitimacy of the sport, and went to bat for the huge Canadian fan base, getting sanctions passed in order to host the sporting event.
No doubt hockey is still the nation’s favourite sport, but Canada has embraced UFC beyond anticipation. UFC president, Dana White, named Canada the “mecca” of MMA, while Co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta had this to say of the sport’s Northern support. “It’s an interesting situation because I think, pound-for-pound, the UFC is more popular in Canada than any other country – including the U.S.A. I mean, it’s amazing.”
On June 12th, General Motors Place will host the first ever UFC event in B.C. Don’t miss UFC 115: Liddell vs. Franklin. For UFC tickets, visit ShowTimeTickets.com, where we are never sold out!
