Demand for NHL Tickets

NHL Ticket demand to decrease?
NHL Ticket demand to decrease?

The NHL is back in full swing, as players have returned to their respective cities to pick-up the play-offs.
The 2010 Winter Olympics piqued a lot of new interest in hockey, and revived interest from longtime fans.
According to TicketNews.com, all the recent excitement may not convert into a sales boost for NHL events. In an interesting article posted yesterday, McWilliams asserts. “History certainly isn’t on the side of a post-Olympics bump in ticket sales.” He uses the U.S.A.’s gold medal win in 1980 as evidence that hype doesn’t necessarily equal higher ticket sales.
The article is worth a read, but I can’t say I entirely agree with McWilliams. With support of the sport at an all-time high, I think people will want to be in the arena. Read More

The 2010 Winter Olympics are winding down, but the biggest party is yet to come. The Closing Ceremony is set to be the climax of the Winter Games, as Canada celebrates the achievements of the world’s most talented athletes.
Although officials and participants keep a tight lid on the details of the show, we do know that it will include some of Canada’s biggest entertainers. Closing Ceremony executive producer, David Atkins, wouldn’t name names, but did say, “It’s going to be a very contrasting night to the opening ceremony… a celebration of Canadian humor, talent, and innovation.” Atkins also produced the 2000 Closing Ceremony in Sydney, Australia, which featured an array of well-known entertainers. Olympic Slalom Yet to Come

bode millerWith only four alpine skiing races left, the giant slalom and slalom will be the last chance for 2010 Olympic skiers to medal.
American skier, Bode Miller, has a lot riding on the final events. He is one podium away from an alpine Olympic record of four medals won in a single Winter Games.
Bode Miller has had a very publicized career. He is fairly unpopular with mainstream media, and is known as a bit of a wild card.
Regardless of his likeability though, he is an extremely talented skier. Miller has been skiing on the World Cup Circuit for over a decade. He has thirty-two World Cup victories, making him the most successful American alpine skier ever.
Miller medaled in the giant slalom back in 2002, so the record-setting challenge is certainly within reach.
Miller has exhibited a more mature take on the Winter Games this time around. He seems more appreciative of his athletic position. In an emotional statement to the press after the men’s combined competition, he said, “To execute the race the way I did today is something I will be proud of for the rest of my life.”

Canada Holds Promise for Ice Dance Gold

ice danceThe Olympic Winter Games are not all muscle and might. Ice dancing is an elegant sport that embraces strength along with style. The 2010 Olympic ice dance season is developing into an exciting first for Canada.
Ontario natives, Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, are all the rage in the ice dancing world today. They advanced into first place yesterday after scoring high on their original program. The theme for the original dance competition was country/folk, and although many participants had critics turning their heads, the Canadians opted for a classic Spanish look and rhythm.
Virtue and Moir showed off their speed and precision with a sharp program that propelled them into the lead. The pair competed almost flawlessly in the two competitions held thus far, the first of which earned them a standing ovation.
Virtue and Moir compete in the free dance today, and have a very good chance of reaching the top of the podium. If they do capture gold, they will be the first North American ice dancing team ever to do so.
