Radiohead debuts new song “Full Stop” at Illinois concert

By Kat

At a recent concert stop in Tinley Park, Illinois, British rock band Radiohead debuted a new song titled “Full Stop” to the delight of the crowd. The new song follows the release of the band’s latest album “The King of Limbs”.

Writes The Rolling Stone:

Like other new tunes the group has been trying out in recent sets, “Full Stop” pushes the dark and densely rhythmic sound of the King material in a more aggressive direction. This number is particularly menacing, with beats that tumble out violently as Thom Yorke chants “the truth will mess you up,” a sentiment that is so very Thom Yorke that it’s surprising it took so long for him to actually sing it.

Have a listen and tell us what you think of Radiohead’s latest work!

Radiohead has a few more stops on the North American leg of its current tour – notably concerts in Montreal and Toronto – before closing out their 2012 schedule with gigs in France, New Zealand and Australia. Remember that you can get Radiohead tickets for any of their dates with ShowTimeTickets.com – we’re never sold out!

Check out this great cover of Robyn’s “Call Your Girlfriend”

From Danish singer Christopher comes this live, acoustic version of pop diva Robyn’s Top 40 hit “Call Your Girlfriend.” We can’t get enough! Of course, the original song being so fantastic doesn’t hurt.

For reference, here’s the original.

Who do you think does the song better? Does Robyn’s synth-pop beat out the mellowness of Christopher’s version? Let us know in the comments below!

New Music: Jay Brannan – “Beautifully”

Singer-songwriter Jay Brannan (“Soda Shop”) returns with this video for “Beautifullly,” from his second LP. Here, Brannan abandons the whisper-quiet arrangements he began his career with, incorporating a lush array of strings, clavinets, and percussion, as well as a subtle country influence, into his vocal-heavy sound.

The track, like much of Brannan’s work, draws heavily from artists who put out a lot of their best work before he was even born: Dylan, Hall & Oates, Simon & Garfunkel (and here, a touch of Dolly Parton or Porter Wagoner); but as always his main influences remain the softer side of the 90s: Alanis Morissette, Jewel, Liz Phair, and Tori Amos.

We love this song. If you like any of the artists we’ve listed, we think you might love it, too. The video is also very nicely done: complementing Brannan’s unusual choice to sing from the perspective of a woman who’s been stuck in the “friend zone,” we’re able to watch the story play out before our eyes in a tasteful, restrained way which complements the song without being overbearing.

New Music Alert: “Pass The Mic, Tom” (Rush vs Beastie Boys)

Since the heady days of Girl Talk and the Grey Album, mashups have declined in popularity. That doesn’t mean they’re over, though – a pair of songs expertly combined can be hilarious, snarky, or just plain awesome. It’s a little of the first and a whole lot of the last with this track from artist Jay Braun. Mashing up Rush’s “Tom Sawyer” with the Beastie Boys’ “Pass The Mic,” this is a little under 4 minutes of genius.
