Boy George, born George O'Dowd, is a British singer and songwriter whose career emerged during the early 1980s. His popularity skyrocketed with the success of his work as the lead vocalist for the Culture Club. Their debut album, Kissing to Be Clever, was released in 1982. This album contained the hit "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me," which reached No. 1 in more than twelve countries including the UK and the US. They went on to release several more albums, and the hits kept rolling. "Karma Chameleon" stayed at No. 1 in the US for three weeks and in the UK for six. During the late 1980s, Boy George began his solo career, which resulted in more than eight, performance albums, seven DJ albums and a series of compilations.
Boy George continues to explore the arts through songwriting, DJing, fashion design and writing. Following the 2010 release of his solo album, titled Ordinary Alien, he tours on occasion as both a singer and a DJ.
