William Earl "Bootsy" Collins, an American funk bassist, singer/songwriter, was born in 1951. He rose to fame with James Brown in the '60s and with Parliament-Funkadelic in the '70s. Renowned for his bass guitar work and satirical lyrics, this leader of the funk genre was inducted into the Hall of Fame in '97.
After leaving Brown, Collins formed House Guests with his brother, and released two singles. Collaborating with numerous artists, he won Bass Player Magazine 's Lifetime Achievement Award, and has appeared at Bonnaroo and the Arts Festival in Tennessee in 2011.
