entertainer and songwriter, originally from Abbott, Texas. He reached
his greatest fame during the outlaw country movement of the 1970s, though
he had already become famous as a 1960s songwriter.

In the mid 1980s, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson and Johnny Cash formed a group called The Highwaymen. The group achieved unexpected massive success, including platinum record sales and worldwide touring.
During the 1990s and 2000s, Willie Nelson has toured continuously and released albums that generally received excellent reviews, including 1998's critically acclaimed Teatro. Teatro was produced by Daniel Lanois - more commonly known for his work with U2 - and featured supporting vocals by Emmylou Harris. Later that year, he joined legendary rock band Phish onstage for several songs as part of the annual Farm Aid festival. Willie Nelson is widely recognized as an American icon and has participated in numerous charity efforts, such as Farm Aid. He has worked with many musicians over the years and, in 2006, is touring with John Fogerty.
