The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra is a symphony orchestra whose performances typically take place at the Hollywood Bowl, where it originated. The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association manages them. Orchestras have been performing at the Hollywood Bowl since the 1920s; however, the official Orchestra did not assemble to play until 1991. At that time, it was under the directorship of Principal Conductor John Mauceri, who maintained that position for sixteen years. In 2008, after the retirement of Mauceri, Thomas Wilkins was appointed as Principal Guest Conductor for the symphony's eighty, international players.
The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra frequently performs with artists from a vast array of genres including pop, jazz, classical and rock.
