Originally part of a vocal ensemble at Columbia University, Sha Na Na branched out as an American rock and roll group, claiming to represent "the streets of New York" in the 50s, complete with pompadours and leather jackets. The group hosted the weekly Sha Na Na TV rock forum from '77 รข?? '81.
Two original members remain, Danny York and Jocko Marcellino. Screamin' Scott Simon joined just after Woodstock, where the group preceded Jimmy Hendrix. They have appeared in "Grease," "Woodstock", and "Festival Express."
