Motion City Soundtrack is a pop punk band from Minneapolis, Minnesota. They
formed in 1997 and have released two albums, both on Epitaph Records. They released a
number of EPs and gained a sizable following before releasing their first full-length album, I
Am the Movie, in 2003.
Motion City Soundtrack's first single was the track "The Future Freaks Me Out", which
was released in 2003 and features a catchy chorus and memorable video. A second single
was released later that year, "My Favorite Accident", with a similarly quirky but also more
dramatic video.

Motion City Soundtrack went on tour throughout Europe and Japan with punk rock stars Blink-182 in 2004. During the tour, Mark Hoppus, mentioned to the members of Motion City Soundtrack that he was considering in pursuing work in record production. The comment was passed off more or less as a joke at first, but on the last day of the bands' tour, the band asked Hoppus if he would be interested in producing their next record to which he agreed.
The album's name, Commit This to Memory, is taken from a lyric in one of the Motion City Soundtrack's songs. Production work on Commit This to Memory was finished in early 2005, and the album's winter theme (with two songs reflecting on New Year's Day) contrasted heavily with its expected June release. The album's first single, "Everything Is Alright", found significant radio play and appeared on several compilations. The song's video has appeared on MTV and Fuse channel, and has also appeared on the Saint's Row soundtrack.
