Born in 1942, American rock musician and songwriter Lou Reed adds photography to his list of talents. Starting out in '64 as a songwriter for Pickwick Records, he went on to become guitarist, vocalist, and principal songwriter for "The Velvet Underground."
His solo career began in '71 with the hit "Walk on the Wild Side," reaching hit status in '72. Staying active past 2000, he performed for Pope John Paul II in Rome and premiered his new group in '08, Metal Machine.
