Originating in Atlanta, the American quartet indie rock band, Deerhunter was self-described as playing in an "ambient punk" style. Other genres are mixed in, such as noise rock, art rock, shoegaze, post-punk and pop. There have been several line-up changes, and the death of a member due to a skateboarding accident.
The band toured from the beginning, but the first album was not released. "Cryptograms" came out in '06 followed by the Flourescent Grey EP in '07. In the same month, they released "Whirly." Becoming a quartet after the departure of Colin Mee, guitar, they undertook a 2010 tour promoting the new album, "Transference."
