George Jones is
an American country singer known for his distinctive voice and phrasing
that frequently evoke the raw emotions caused by grief, unhappy love, and
emotional hardship. Since at least the early 1980s, he has frequently been
referred to as "the greatest living country singer." Almost as often he
is called "the Rolls-Royce of country singers."

George Jones he cut his first record in 1954, entitled No Money in This Deal. George Jones had his first chart hit in 1955 with "Why Baby Why", a song he co-wrote. It reached No. 4 in Billboard. In 1956, he scored a No. 3 on Starday with "Just One More". He had his first country No. 1 in 1959 with "White Lightning". In 1961, he hit No. 1 again with "Tender Years" and "She Thinks I Still Care".
George Jones kicked off the 1980s with one of the greatest country records of all time, He Stopped Loving Her Today, which won him single of the year honors from the CMA in 1980 and 1981. It also earned him a Grammy that same year for best male country vocal performance.
He spends up to 165 days a year on the road. George Jones' has released a number of albums recently including Hits I Missed...And One I Didn't in 2005, God's Country: George Jones and Friends in 2006, and Kickin' Out The Footlights... Again in 2006.
